Student councils showcase volunteer projects; foreign exchange students honored

High-school and middle-school student councils presented year-end reports at the May 11 Holmen School Board meeting, describing a range of volunteer and service activities that supported students and the community.

Holmen High School student council officers told the board their membership grew to roughly 50 students, and they highlighted teacher appreciation events, a soda/ice-cream bar for staff, prom and homecoming activities, volunteer drives (including a toys-for-Tots effort and shopping for a family in need) and a blood drive that helped generate funding for a $1,500 senior scholarship. "We have been growing so much exponentially... when I was a freshman we had 25 people on a good day. And now we're up to practically 50 members," said student council president Abby.

Middle school student council members outlined service projects including a Veterans Day assembly, a new Alzheimer’s Walk fundraiser (they raised $1,250), a paper-recycling rollout across the building and an annual staff-lunch event. Middle school presenters emphasized continuity of service and plans to expand recycling and community clean-up projects.

The board also recognized three foreign exchange students—Lily Schroeder, Francesca OA and Frederick—who briefly spoke about their experiences and praised Holmen’s school spirit. Lily Schroeder said she liked "the school sports and the team spirit" as a highlight from her time here.

Board members thanked students, staff and community donors for their contributions to extracurricular programs and encouraged continued student engagement at upcoming events, including graduation and spring concerts.
