Holmen board approves consent agenda including roofing awards; band directors seek bids for new uniforms

The Holmen School Board approved its consent agenda on May 11, which included awards and project items from the district’s 2022 referendum and other routine business.
Director of Facility Services Justin Her recommended awarding the roofing contracts for Viking and Sand Lake elementaries, presenting a total project cost of $1,845,875 and noting recommended contingency amounts (10% for Viking and 7.5% for Sand Lake). Her said the bids were solicited as part of referendum project work and would be acted on via the consent agenda.
Board members then voted to approve the consent agenda; the motion to approve was made by Chris Laauo and seconded by Cadia Islam and carried without objections.
Separately in the meeting, band directors Andrew Jones and Angela Clingner requested permission to go to bid for new marching uniforms: 150 marching coats and bibbers, shakos and plumes, gauntlets, five drum-major uniforms and a parade banner. The presenters said many current uniforms date from 2003 and a 2016 purchase, that some zippers and buttons are failing, and that the booster organization is prepared to assist with fundraising. They noted modern uniform materials may be machine-washable and more breathable for summer performances.
What this means: The roofing work presented will move forward under the consent action approved by the board. The uniform request was presented as an intent to go to bid and fundraising collaboration with boosters; no contract award was made that evening.
