Board hears five‑year renewal proposal for Prairie Creek Community School with phased enrollment increase

Presenters noted Prairie Creek requests a phased increase in enrollment—15 additional students across the five‑year term—with language in article six of the proposed contract to phase in those seats. Staff and Prairie Creek leaders said the school is mission‑driven and wishes to remain small; the contract therefore includes a phase‑in rather than an immediate open cap.

Board members thanked district staff (Darl) and Prairie Creek representative Simon for the work on the 80‑page renewal packet and emphasized the district’s long history as an authorizer. Members noted that many Prairie Creek students live outside district boundaries and that the relationship benefits the broader community because some families later enroll in Northfield Public Schools. Several members voiced support for the incremental increase and for continuing the authorizer relationship.

No final action on the renewal occurred on May 11; staff said the contract will return for individual board action at the May 26 meeting and that the district is completing re‑certification work for its authorizer status (a required five‑year process).
