Planning Commission reappoints Shauna to Housing Advisory Committee after staff paperwork confusion

The Planning Commission on May 12, 2026 approved the reappointment of Shauna to the Housing Advisory Committee following discussion about a staff error that had left no apparent vacancy on the nine-member committee.

Commissioners said the HAC is statutorily limited to nine seats and that a prior scheduling conflict had temporarily removed Shauna from active participation. Commissioners and staff recapped a months-long administrative confusion — originally raised in November and December — that left one seat effectively unavailable until the paperwork was corrected.

After discussion about whether the commission or city council should formally fill the seat, a motion to reappoint Shauna was made and seconded. The commission approved the reappointment by voice vote; no opposition was recorded at the meeting.

Commissioners noted there may be an attendance issue with another HAC member that, under the committee’s bylaws, could be grounds for removal if it continues. Mr. Bracken was identified in the discussion as serving as the council representative to the committee at present.

The reappointment restores the commission’s long-standing representative arrangement on the HAC; commissioners said staff will handle the paperwork and any necessary coordination with the city council.
