Board names new West Ridge High School; mascot selection to follow

The Chesterfield County School Board voted May 12 to name the new western-area high school "West Ridge High School," selecting it from three candidate names the board had posted for public consideration.
Board member Steven Pronto said community feedback favored West Ridge and moved the board to adopt it so project work could proceed. "Westridge was the name that came out on top," he said during discussion. Board member Dominique Chatters quipped that the alternative "Western View" might attract attention from popular media and joked about fundraising opportunities, but the board adopted West Ridge on roll call. Board members said a separate process to determine the mascot will proceed quickly so turf-field design and procurement can move forward.
