The Chesterfield County School Board on May 12 adopted its FY2027 operating budget and five-year capital improvement plan, approving a package that officials said totals just over $1.1 billion and includes about $37 million for employee compensation, primarily a 5% pay increase.
Mr. Meister, presenting memo 069-26, told the board the proposal is unchanged from the version the board approved in February and described its major components: roughly $48 million in new revenue, $37 million for compensation, about $16.5 million to cover inflation and opening new schools, and about $7 million for expanded student supports including tutoring and mental-health staff. He said the five-year CIP totals roughly $700 million, with $117 million appropriated in FY2027 for projects including a new high school and major maintenance. "The budget before you today totals just over $1.1 billion," Mr. Meister said.
Board members approved the budget on a roll-call vote. Several members and the superintendent noted the state budget remained unsettled in Richmond and said the division will return with adjustments if state figures change. The board and administration said they expect to reconcile and amend the plan after the state budget is finalized.
