Westbury facilities director says security‑vestibule installation delayed to August

Mr. Stein, who briefed the board, said the program began in July 2025 with an original completion goal of December 2025. "Since that time we've experienced a number of supply chain issues," he said, adding that the interior and exterior door systems are specialized: "They're comprised of door frames, doors, armored glass, auto operators...bullet‑resistant, impact resistance," and that different manufacturers supply components.
Mr. Stein said the district expects the door systems to arrive in late June 2026, with installation scheduled for July and August. He said the district will remove temporary walls and old doors and install the new systems, estimating roughly four days of installation at each school once parts arrive. Mr. Stein displayed progress photos for Drexel Avenue, Dryden Street, Park Avenue and Powell's Lane schools and reported that transaction windows, ceilings and electrical/mechanical work are largely in place.
Administrators did not announce budget changes during the update. The schedule shift reflects national supply issues rather than changes to on‑site work, officials said; the board acknowledged the delay and thanked facilities staff for the ongoing work. No formal vote was required for the report.
Facilities leaders said they will notify parents and staff about installation timing at individual schools as dates firm up and will return with another update when the district has a confirmed installation schedule.
