The Cincinnati School Board voted unanimously on May 4 to adopt a second reading of proposed revisions to the district Code of Conduct, after staff outlined edits intended to clarify procedures for emergency removals and student re-entry.
Director of Positive School Culture Fonicia House presented the amendments and said a key change allows designated school staff (beyond principals or assistant principals) to lead re‑entry meetings when appropriate and clarifies that a student's family should be invited to the meeting. The revisions also refine language tying discipline responses to MTSS/PBIS guidance and explicitly add "immigration status" to the list of protected characteristics in bullying/harassment sections.
After the presentation the board moved and seconded the adoption. The roll call vote was recorded as unanimous in favor. The district said the updated code will be published and schools notified to implement the revised procedures before the next school year.
Board members thanked staff for incorporating feedback from the prior reading and for adding language about school re‑entry meetings, participation and communication.
