Dan Voorhees and John Gentry asked the Carroll County Quorum Court to make property-tax calculations and meeting materials publicly available online.
Dan Voorhees, who identified himself as a Carroll County resident, asked the court to enter his written statement into the public record and to publish the exact formulas, data and equations used to calculate property taxes and reappraisals. "We, the people of Carroll County, deserve to know exactly how we're being taxed," Voorhees said, adding that FOIA requests for such data had been denied and that property records are county records subject to public request.
John Gentry, identified as a Carroll County resident and a member of the Carroll County Integrity Initiative, asked that the county post meeting notices, agendas and document packets on the county website at least three days before regular meetings and two hours before special meetings, citing "Acts 505 and 922 of 2025" as the basis for the notice requirement. Gentry also requested that signed contracts and county documents be published and that JPs be given official county email addresses to reduce reliance on personal accounts.
Court members acknowledged the requests during the public-comment period; the transcript records the appeals and the court’s receipt of written statements but does not show a vote or immediate action to change posting or records practices. The statements are in the meeting record as public comment and were requested to be entered into the official record.
