At the start of Monday's meeting, Catherine Casey addressed the Hughson City Council during public comment to introduce herself and describe her role as an independent reporter and editor for local weeklies produced by Mid Valley Publications.
Casey said Mid Valley Publications, founded in 1964, is an employee-owned group of community newspapers serving Merced and Stanislaus counties and that she produces much of the local reporting. She told the council that at the last meeting Mayor George Carr's special recognition of her "referred only to my person and not the organization I represent" and that his comments about work he had not yet seen "seemed unwarranted and excessive and I did not appreciate that." Casey invited corrections and suggested readers contact her via the published email address.
Mayor and council members acknowledged the comment and moved on to the next item; no formal response or follow-up action was recorded.
