A commissioner moved to approve giving employees the full day off on Thursday, Dec. 24; discussion focused on the fiscal and staffing impacts of closing during that business day, with at least one commissioner recalling a historical cost figure of about $56,000 but acknowledging they were not certain of the number. "I feel like it was 56,000. I don't know why. I just feel like it's around that," one commissioner said. Staff and other commissioners said the exact cost depends on which departments must provide continuous coverage (for example corrections, juvenile services, public works and law enforcement).
The motion was withdrawn and commissioners agreed to bring the item back next week with additional input from impacted department heads and updated cost estimates before any formal vote.
No formal action was taken at the May 12 meeting.
