Board members and invited state legislators publicly honored Dr. Barbara A. Russell on the occasion of her upcoming retirement, presenting a legislative citation that the presenter said will be part of Pennsylvania’s official record.
Senator Penny Cookook (who introduced the citation) told the audience she was ‘‘pleased to recognize your many, many years of service as a teacher, as an administrator, as a superintendent,’’ and read the citation that references more than 40 years in education and service to the district.
The board followed the retirement recognition with a series of student awards. The high school TV studio and broadcast program (coached and led by video production teacher Mr. Todd Moore) earned an outstanding overall program award from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters; participating students were called forward and given recognition.
The board also recognized musical ensembles (including selections for the Intercount Jazz Band) and a broad set of athletic achievements: wrestling, indoor track and field, and swimming accomplishments were noted, including named athletes and coaches. The girls basketball team was celebrated for a fourth straight pack championship and an undefeated conference record.
Board members invited students and staff to pose for photographs in the lobby after the recognitions. The meeting record shows applause and multiple expressions of appreciation from the board and audience members.
