Council to consider $1.88M Angleside pressure‑zone upgrades after bids; project aims to enable roughly 900 new connections

City staff asked the Shelton City Council on April 21 to authorize moving forward with bidding and construction support for the Upper Angleside pressure‑zone improvement project, which includes pipe replacement, monitoring (SCADA) upgrades and electronic controls intended to improve distribution pressure and allow future growth.

Community and Economic Director Erin said the project’s current design estimate is about $1.88 million and that the city expects to combine a legislative appropriation from the 35th district with city funds. "If the bids come in lower, we'll be able to add additional upgrades," Erin said, describing an approach that pairs the grant appropriation with city match funds. Staff indicated the work is intended to address long-standing pressure issues and to allow roughly 900 new water connections without upsizing pipe mains.

Erin asked council to place Resolution 1433-0326 onto the May 5 action agenda; the resolution would authorize a work order on the city’s public-works professional services roster to provide bidding support, construction management and inspection services (the proposal includes a not-to-exceed amount of consultant fees for construction management). Council members thanked staff for advancing a project many said had been under discussion for a decade and approved forwarding the resolution to the May 5 agenda for final action.

Next steps: staff will finalize bid documents and return to council on May 5 for award or further authorization if needed.
