Council introduces sewer connection resolution and a bill to exempt corporate flags from sign permits; hearings set for June 9

On May 12 the Talbot County Council introduced two land-use measures for later public hearings. The council introduced Resolution 394 to amend policies governing sewer service connections from areas outside defined sewer-service areas (Unionville, Tunis Mills, Copperville) to the Royal Oak pump station; the council was advised that adoption would allow the un-tabling of related comprehensive plan resolutions (388-391). The public hearing was scheduled for June 9 at 5:30 p.m.
Council members also introduced Bill 1626, a zoning code amendment to permit corporate flags (displaying a business name, trademark or logo) to be exempt from sign-permit requirements subject to conditions. The planning director told the council the planning commission had recommended a 40-square-foot cap and that the corporate flag must be flown in conjunction with one or more government flags; council members noted they could add language requiring that the corporate flag be no larger than the government flag as a council amendment at public hearing.
Both items were introduced by council vote and set for public hearings on June 9; the council did not take final action on either measure at the May 12 meeting.
