Zephyrhills CRA approves two matching façade grants to help downtown businesses and homeowners

The Zephyrhills Community Redevelopment Agency voted May 11 to approve two matching façade grants designed to help a homeowner and a new downtown business complete exterior improvements.
At the start of the meeting, the CRA considered a residential grant request from Shamar Gerald of 5114 16th Street seeking funding for materials to clad a backyard garage in Hardie siding. CRA staff said the structure is under 600 square feet, meets setbacks, is not visible from the street and passed site-plan review. The agency approved funding for half of the materials cost (staff characterized the materials cost at about $4,234.10). A motion to approve the request passed by voice vote.
The CRA then reviewed a commercial façade request from Marie for a new frame shop, Happy Frames, at 38452 6th Avenue. The proposed sign totals $542.89; the CRA will reimburse half the cost after the sign is installed and passes inspection. Commissioners confirmed the sign is a black-and-white design and approved the matching grant.
CRA staff said the agency advanced the two grants at this meeting so work could proceed before the next CRA meeting (there is no CRA meeting scheduled later in May because of Memorial Day). Both approvals were passed by voice vote.
The CRA also approved minutes for previous meetings as part of routine business.
What happens next: Recipients will install the approved improvements, pass any needed inspections, and then receive the agreed matching funds from the CRA.
