Orange City Council canvasses May 2 election, swears in two new members

Miss Anderson read a resolution canvassing the returns and reporting vote totals. The resolution declared Terry Turner Salter elected to council member Place 3 (reported total votes: 212) and Paul Burch elected to council member Place 6 at large (reported total votes: 760). The resolution notes a total of 1,135 ballots cast in the city’s general election. The council adopted the canvass resolution by motion and voice vote.
Judge Bearden administered the oath of office to Terry Turner Salter and Paul Burch, after which each signed the certificate of election. The mayor and other council members congratulated the newly sworn members. Council then followed its stated rotation policy and voted to appoint Terry Turner Salter as mayor pro tem.
The council took the actions by voice vote; the canvass resolution and the ceremonial oaths complete the formal election certification process at the city level and allow the newly elected members to immediately assume the duties of their seats.
