County moves forward with bids for Hatcherville, Cedar Boulevard and Bayer Road repairs

On Bayer Road (between 1405 and West Bay Road), staff described recurring sinking and pothole problems. An engineering consultant previously collected borings and identified potential groundwater seepage, canal-related leakage or poor drainage as likely causes. Past repairs, including foam injection and rock bedding, produced only short-term improvement. Staff said the planned rehabilitation will include drainage repairs as part of a long-term solution to reduce repeat repairs.
Commissioner Dagley noted the county spent roughly $300,000 on previous remediation that did not provide a permanent fix, prompting a more extensive engineering approach. The court approved moving the item to solicitation and soliciting solutions that address both roadway and drainage issues.
The court voted by voice to proceed; commissioners asked staff to return with bid packages and recommended sequencing to limit traffic impacts while the work is carried out.
