District reviews major high school, middle school and CTE plans as staff weigh site, schedule and temporary-relocation options

Options discussed included demolishing and rebuilding the existing shop shell or relocating shop programs into a new CTE building.
Temporary-relocation alternatives: staff said a previously considered rental (Woodside) for temporary shop space would require fire alarms, upgraded heating, electrical work and other costly upgrades; after pricing those changes staff concluded the rental path was likely not cost-effective. Instead, a revised plan to build a new CTE structure south of the PAC could shorten site work, require fewer moves and allow the district to complete the CTE facility more quickly. Cash said the team could design and build a pre-engineered metal building with a finished exterior and aim to complete that work so programs could move by the winter break.
Middle school program and amenities: schematic designs call for grade-specific corridors, a flex theater with retractable seating, two gyms (competition and auxiliary), and a repositioned kitchen and media center. Board members discussed whether the district should build one central district kitchen or retain multiple kitchens and asked staff to bring kitchen consultants to upcoming design meetings.
Timeline and risks: staff confirmed topographic surveys are complete and soil borings were scheduled the week of May 18 to inform structural needs. The team reiterated that material and fuel price volatility is a risk to budgets and that the construction manager will play a key role in price validation and sequencing. The target for opening new facilities is fall 2028, subject to procurement and bidding results.
