Council approves MOU with San Bruno to co‑host cultural events

Millbrae City Council voted 5–0 on May 12 to authorize a memorandum of understanding with the City of San Bruno to coordinate several community events.
Recreation Director Hannah Moran said the MOU establishes a resource‑sharing partnership—coordinated planning, staffing and promotion—while preserving each city’s operational control over events on its property. Examples named in the staff report include Juneteenth, Dia de los Muertos and the Millbrae Art Show. Moran said the arrangement is intended to increase attendance, reduce duplication of effort and preserve existing departmental budgets.
Moran clarified the MOU is not a revenue‑sharing agreement: "these particular events are not ticketed events... the host city takes on the lion’s share," she said, describing the partnership as a way to extend outreach and share staff expertise. The agreement includes standard administrative provisions (insurance, indemnification, amendment and termination clauses) and regular coordination meetings between the two cities.
Vice Mayor Raldi moved the resolution and Council Member Riley seconded; the council approved the MOU by roll call vote, 5–0.
What happens next: staff will coordinate calendars and marketing, and the two agencies plan to continue sharing permit and staffing responsibilities for selected cultural events in 2026 and beyond.
