Central Academy secures facility for young students; board schedules June review for charter material revision

During public comments, Greg West, who identified himself as CEO of Central Academy of Arts and Technology, told the Kern County Board of Education that the charter school has secured a new facility to house transitional kindergarten through second grade students and has resubmitted a material revision to the Kern County Superintendent of Schools staff for review.
"We've officially entered into an agreement for an additional facility which will allow us to house our TK through 2 grade students in a dedicated school space of their own," West said. He said the change will take students out of a shared space at First Presbyterian and that the school has "hundreds of students on our wait list." He thanked staff for placing a public hearing and action item on the June board agenda.
Trustees acknowledged the comment and confirmed staff will include the charter facility material revision on the June agenda so the board can consider the revision and any related action at that meeting. Other public comments included a request to review vetting processes and a neighborhood pickup/drop-off concern for Central Academy; the board invited those speakers to follow up with staff and the charter sponsor.
No formal decisions were made about the charter at Tuesday’s meeting; the county office will process the material revision and present the item during the June meeting for public hearing and potential adoption.
