Mayor Morgan opened the meeting by reading a proclamation recognizing mental health as "an essential part of overall health and well‑being" and urging the community to reduce stigma and promote care. "One in two people will experience a mental health challenge in their life," Mayor Morgan read, and the proclamation pledged the borough's support for the New Jersey Crosstown Mental Health Coalition and its Paint the Town Green campaign.
A council member who helped start the Crosstown Mental Health Coalition said the local program has grown from New Providence into a 14‑town coalition and praised the children's artwork and messages created for the campaign. The council announced winners of an in‑town art contest (grade winners and honorable mentions were read aloud) and discussed displaying the posters in schools and businesses to raise awareness.
Officials also promoted two near‑term community events tied to the awareness effort: a suicide‑prevention training on Saturday, and "Move, Breathe and Bloom," a walk and Qigong session at Centennial Park beginning at 11:00 followed by a community conversation and refreshments. Council members encouraged residents to participate and to look for more information on the borough website.
The council asked the schools and local businesses to help showcase winners' posters and discussed logistical support for upcoming events. The proclamation and event promotions were presented as awareness and outreach measures; no formal ordinance or binding policy was adopted during the meeting.
