Commission keeps several street trees, tasks DJ Scully with evaluating hazardous wire-entangled tree

During its regular meeting, the commission reviewed a lengthy list of tree removal and planting requests.
At 17 Arcadia Avenue commissioners found two trees generally healthy despite a large limb removed previously; after discussion a committee member moved to keep the trees and the motion carried. Members said they would revisit trimming needs with a field inspector as required.
The commission examined a heavily damaged tree entangled with utility wires on Crescent and agreed to request an evaluation from DJ Scully and to coordinate with Duke Energy if utility trimming is required. A motion was seconded and approved to have DJ Scully evaluate the tree and advise next steps.
A dead tree on Von Zuben Court was described as beyond its useful life; a motion to remove it carried. Members also recommended trimming at 239 Rosemont, where the tree is healthy but has dead limbs and a low immediate risk to curb or sidewalk.
Throughout the discussion commissioners cited the need to balance canopy maintenance with public safety and utility coordination and noted the commission will call in public works or contract work as needed for removals and large pruning.
