The Leesburg City Commission approved a task order authorizing Half Associates, Inc. to produce design and bid-ready drawings needed to rehabilitate the Palm Harbor Drive bridge.
Public works staff described how a boater and a pedestrian observed damage to the bridge headwall and erosion that threatened the seawall and drainage. Staff said a bridge inspector recommended a bridge engineer prepare design drawings to move the project to construction bidding. "This is the design that would get us to bid," a staff member said.
Commissioners voted to approve the task order by roll call. Staff said the design work will clarify required repairs and allow the city to solicit construction bids once plans are complete.
Next steps: staff will coordinate with Half Associates to produce bid-ready bridge design documents and return any material cost estimates or schedule updates to the commission.
