The board approved the recommendation by roll call after a presentation from the broker's representatives.
Board President Dr. Petty said the district had reviewed several RFP responses and convened an evaluation committee that included NEA representatives. Carlton Brooks, who presented the recommendation, described the process as collaborative and thorough.
Account executives Scott James and Lucy Coons, introduced as MMA representatives, told the board the firm would oversee the district's current health plan with carrier Sigma, monitor claims experience and, when appropriate, explore other carrier options. "We will constantly be monitoring Sigma and the services that they're providing and the claims experience," Scott James said.
Directors asked questions about MMA's local experience and timetable. The firm said it serves multiple local districts and would begin work after board approval; the exact start date would be set in follow-up negotiations.
The motion to approve MMA as the district's health-insurance broker was moved by Director Milton Roberts and seconded by Vice President Jefferson. By roll-call vote the board approved the recommendation; all members voting on the motion recorded yes.
