School board adopts several policy updates and keeps 2026'-27 attendance boundaries unchanged

The Citrus County School Board on May 12 adopted a slate of policy updates and approved the district's attendance boundary maps for the 2026'-27 school year, voting 4-0 on each measure.
Policy updates presented by Mr. Dixon included a health services plan revision (policy 5.51) that adds a timeline requirement for mental-health referrals, clarification language for student injuries (policy 5.60), and changes to athletics rules for transfer-student participation (policy 5.80). The board also adopted policy 5.201 to update out-of-zone transfer language, including references to the HOPE scholarship and an expanded zoning exception for families under contract to move mid-year.
Board members discussed the attendance boundary recommendation, noting staff proposed keeping the 2026'-27 elementary, middle and high school boundaries the same as the prior year while continuing an open-enrollment/controlled transfer process. Mr. Dodd and others warned against disruptive rezoning while the district is experiencing enrollment declines; staff said they will monitor utilization and could return with rezoning proposals next year if needed.
All policy adoptions and the attendance boundary approval passed unanimously, 4-0. Board members asked staff to track open-enrollment transfers and report back on capacity and utilization as the district moves into the budget season.
