Gilbert Unified District board recognizes students, staff and community partners

The Gilbert Unified District (4239) Governing Board used part of its agenda to recognize student achievement, staff contributions and community partners.
Dr. McCord led recognitions across multiple categories: Battle of the Books participants and regional representatives were invited to the dais; Dr. Matt Moyes received the AASP 2025 Keith Perkins Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in school psychology; Valley Bloom volunteers were thanked for assistance including gift cards, clothing, prom tickets and student scholarships (presenters referenced scholarships up to $8,000 and back-to-school clothing events providing $100 per student for targeted students); and Gilbert Classical Academy received a 2A Glenn Treadway Sportsmanship Award. Individual student athletic achievements were recognized, including Aiden Thielson as Division 3 state tennis singles champion and junior-high athletes of the year honored from several campuses.
Board members and school principals offered short remarks about the honorees, and the meeting moved on to the superintendent’s report following the recognitions.
