Brighton schools to recommend K–5 ELA curriculum after multi-program pilot; board will consider in June

District staff presented a final update on the K–5 English Language Arts pilot and laid out the timeline for a final recommendation to the board.
Mrs. Boyd and Mrs. Alexander told trustees the district piloted multiple ELA programs with teachers across buildings and grade levels, including Savas, My View, My Perspectives, Collaborative Classroom and Amplify CKLA. The pilot included classroom visits, vendor demonstrations, site visits to other districts, teacher trainings, and frequent teacher surveys. "We had one big survey that kind of asked them as they were wrapping up each pilot...we're almost up to a hundred responses now," staff said.
Staff said they will analyze teacher rankings and student feedback and bring a formal recommendation first to the board’s academic committee (scheduled for June 1) and then to the full board on June 8 for approval. Trustees emphasized the value of student voice in the pilot and noted that the recommendation will initially cover grades K–5, with plans later to address grades 6–8.
No final contract or adoption decision was made at the meeting; staff said adjustments would be expected to any chosen program and that the board would be asked to act in June.
