The Ohio County Fiscal Court on May 12 issued proclamations recognizing Emergency Medical Services Week (May 17–23, 2026) and National Police Week (May 10–16, 2026).
Sonia read the text of the EMS proclamation, which praised the work of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, dispatchers and other out-of-hospital providers and noted the value of continued training and public programs. The proclamation, which names “I, David Johnston, Ohio County Judge Executive,” was signed by the judge and copies were distributed to county EMS personnel, including Jim Duke, identified in the meeting as head of the county ambulance service.
Sonia also read a proclamation honoring law enforcement during National Police Week; the document referenced 2025 line-of-duty deaths and urged community recognition of officers’ service. Judge Executive David Johnston signed that proclamation as well; the meeting recorder noted photographs were taken.
The proclamations were ceremonial recognitions and did not involve further court action. Jim Duke and other attendees posed for photos after the proclamations. The court moved on to routine business after the presentations.
