Hamblen County to accept $60,000 from Holston Connect litigation settlement

County counsel (referred to in the meeting as Mr. Caps) told commissioners the case was filed by a private firm and initially sought larger franchise-fee recoveries; mediation produced an overall amount Holston Connect was willing to pay, and the distributions were allocated proportionally by revenues generated in each jurisdiction. Counsel said Hamblen County’s share is relatively small because Holston Connect generated limited revenue in the county.
When asked, counsel estimated the county would receive its check within 90 days and stated there would be no fees deducted from Hamblen County’s share. Commissioner questions about case timing were answered with an estimate that the matter began roughly a year to two years ago and was recently mediated. Commissioners moved and approved acceptance of the settlement by voice vote.
