Council approves GoNet Speed rights-of-way agreement and several routine resolutions; budget amendment attempt stalls

The Sayreville Borough Council on May 11 adopted Ordinance 13-26, authorizing a right-of-way use agreement with GoNet Speed for the installation and operation of broadband facilities. A company representative told the council GoNet welcomed the chance to build competition and lower consumer prices; she offered to hold a community Q&A at the senior center.
Council also opened, read and discussed the municipal 2026 budget amendment (Resolution 2026-116). The clerk recited the amendment line by line, showing itemized changes (surplus anticipated increasing from $6.0 million to $6.5 million and other line adjustments). The public portion drew no comments, but a motion to adopt the amendment failed for lack of a second and the adoption did not proceed; the mayor instructed staff to continue work with the Department of Community Affairs as needed.
The council approved a consent agenda of routine resolutions and authorizations including appointments to the Shade Tree and Environmental commissions, purchase authorizations for emergency lighting equipment and maintenance contracts, and several tax refunds and disposals. Those items were approved by roll call as part of the consent agenda.
The mayor read a proclamation supporting VFW buddy poppy fundraising and acknowledged staff and volunteers for multiple community events and projects during council reports.
