Board spotlights two state-champion wrestlers, student signs scholarship

The Glynn County Board of Education on May 12 recognized two state-champion wrestlers during a spotlight segment, praising their leadership and athletic achievements.
Board members introduced the honorees and invited their coaches to speak. "He had a 46 and 3 record and he's the only senior on the team," Coach Bart said of Samaj, who the coach said has signed a scholarship to attend Brutin Parker College and plans to study nursing. "We're very fortunate to have such a great leader," the coach added.
Coach Ryan Alfa introduced Caleb Cross as the 175-pound state champion and described him as a consistent starter and program leader: "He was an anchor of the program...great leadership," Alfa said, noting Cross won the state title after finishing as a runner-up as a junior. Both students offered brief remarks of thanks to coaches, family and supporters.
The board and attendees applauded the students' accomplishments. The recognition highlighted local high-school athletics and the district's celebration of student success.
The board moved on to other business after the spotlight segment.
