Pittsburg County approves detention agreements, Choctaw Nation MOU for inmate housing

Pittsburg County commissioners voted May 4, 2026, to approve several detention-related agreements, including a service contract with the City of Krebs and a memorandum of understanding with the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma for inmate housing.

The detention services agreement between the City of Krebs, the Pittsburg County Sheriff and the Pittsburg County Detention Center was approved after staff noted that the contract includes an increase in fees. Commissioners recorded unanimous approval. Separately, the board approved a detailed MOU with the Choctaw Nation Department of Public Safety that defines responsibilities for housing tribal inmates, billing and medical care. The MOU included a stated billing rate of $65 per inmate, per day. The MOU text in the meeting packet spells out procedures for billing, medical responsibility, transport arrangements, and routine reporting; it also requires coordination between the Choctaw Nation contract monitors and county staff.

Sheriff Frankie McClendon and jail administrator Jeff Daniels were included in the meeting packet documents and the jail-related contract files. Commissioners directed staff to coordinate billing and operational implementation with the Choctaw Nation and to update procedures for transports and any increases in detention service fees.

The agreements take effect as specified in the contract language and require near-term administrative steps (billing setup, notification and transport coordination) by the sheriff's office and county finance staff.
