Board hears proposal to rezone parts of Jones to Bayari and NAP to balance capacity

District transportation staff presented a proposed attendance‑zone change intended to reduce displacement and keep students within existing feeder patterns while bringing Bayari school nearer capacity.

The presenter outlined three committee goals: disrupt as few students and families as possible, keep students within the same feeder patterns, and bring Bayari closer to capacity because it is land‑locked for growth. Using proposed boundaries, the presenter said Bayari’s capacity is 640 and that the plan would move about 152 students from Jones to Bayari, yielding a projected enrollment near 623. "So this is a proposal, like I said. So this is would come back to you in May for you to vote on," the presenter told the board.

Staff showed mapping slides and emphasized that growth near downtown Springdale may require revisiting attendance lines in a few years. The presenter also noted that some Jones‑zoned students already attend Bayari by transfer and that specialized education placements factor into counts. Board members asked clarifying questions about the geography and timeline; staff said the plan is preliminary and will return for board action in May.

If the board proceeds, the change would follow the board’s normal public engagement and timeline for rezoning decisions. No vote was held at the meeting.
