Blue Island council approves payroll, payables and new monthly committee meeting

The Blue Island City Council on May 12 approved routine payroll and bills and took several procurement actions after staff briefings.
The council approved payroll dated May 8, 2026 in the amount of $440,435.77 by roll call, and then approved accounts payable dated May 13, 2026 in the amount of $935,968.01.
Council also approved an ordinance amending Chapter 30 of the city council code to add an additional committee meeting each month following the council meeting. The motion was moved by Alderman McGee and seconded by Alderman Carr; the roll-call vote carried with six "yes" votes and one "no" from Alderman Roll.
On procurement and maintenance items, the council approved purchases of ultra mag flow meters to meter water supplied from the city of Chicago, following presentation from staff that the meters are required for improved water accounting. The council also approved a contract for replacement of a generator motor at the East Annex after staff said a replacement motor (estimated at roughly $3,000 more than a rebuild option) offered greater reliability than a rebuild.
Council members thanked volunteers and staff for recent community events and reviewed upcoming public hearings and infrastructure work. No substantive land-use votes were taken on the Metro South site; staff reiterated any redevelopment proposal would go to planning and zoning before council consideration.
Next procedural steps: the newly approved committee-meeting schedule takes effect as the city updates the committee calendar; procurement awards and purchases will proceed under the terms approved by the council.
