Franklin schools report transportation registration figures and state earmarks for library, courtyard and auditorium upgrades

District staff urged families to complete bus registration for the 2026–27 school year before the June 18 deadline. The superintendent reported that among eligible K–5 students (1,266), 636 had registered for free busing; total eligible K–12 students were reported as 1,762 with 775 registered at the time of the meeting. Middle‑ and high‑school registration figures were shared as well.
On capital funding, the superintendent announced that Representative Jeff Roy had secured a $150,000 earmark for a Franklin Middle School Library / Innovative Commons project. Senator Roush was reported to have filed $100,000 for repairs to Lincoln Street Elementary’s courtyard and an additional $60,000 request aimed at auditorium lighting upgrades at the middle school; those requests still need to clear the Senate budget and conference review.
The superintendent framed the earmarks as complementary to booster and local fundraising efforts and said the funds would support student programs and facility repairs that were not covered in the district’s capital request list.
The meeting also recognized Franklin students who presented at the Applied Learning Hub showcase in Boston; two 5th-grade teams earned awards in statewide competition.
The district asked families with questions about bus registration to consult the transportation page on the Franklin Public Schools website or email the district at schoolbus@franklinps.net. Staff reiterated that registrations received after June 18 would be placed on a wait list and seats would not be guaranteed.
