Danville City Commission approves zoning changes, contracts and grant applications

Other formal approvals included: the annual bus-transportation agreement with Bull County Schools to support Parks & Recreation summer camps; Change Order No. 1 for the Parville Junction sanitary pump-station project (a cost increase of $64,224.19 to upsize pumps and add three-phase electrical capability); a City Hall HVAC water-treatment contract at $740 per month; and a three-year renewal of a fire-sprinkler-and-alarm inspection reporting platform (vendor-paid, no cost to the city). The commission also approved payment of the presented bills.
The commission approved a contract amendment with Republic Services extending the city's solid-waste agreement through June 30, 2030 and specifying base and optional fees; details and implementation questions were discussed at length (see separate coverage). The body also authorized the city to apply for a Safe Streets for All (FHWA) grant for the western-bypass intersection safety project, increasing the total project estimate to $12.6 million with the city's potential match set at $500,000.
Commissioners approved a $18,115 change order to expand the swing-set surface area at the central playground in Millennium Park so the play area meets fall-safety code; staff said the county may match roughly half that cost. The school resource officer contract renewal through June 30, 2028 was approved without changes in coverage or price.
The meeting concluded with commissioners thanking staff for rapidly restoring customer-only downtown parking. No executive session was held; the commission adjourned following a final voice vote.
