Garner council adopts amended agenda, enters closed session on pending litigation; staff previews March calendar

At the start of the Feb. 24 work session, Council voted to adopt an amended agenda that added a closed session at the end of the meeting; the motion was moved by Council member Stallings, seconded by Council member Vance and passed without opposition.
At the meetingend, the town attorney requested a closed session under North Carolina General Statutes 143-318.11(3) to discuss pending litigation and a possible settlement. Council voted unanimously to enter closed session. After returning to open session, Attorney Jones reported that council met in closed session, provided direction on settlement negotiations and authorized the town manager to execute a settlement agreement should the terms meet the towninterest.
Staff also presented manager reports: Mr. Trezenberg reviewed a development activity map noting a new flex commercial/industrial site-plan application at 108 Garner Station, and staff previewed the March meeting schedule including the March 3 consent item to award the Main Street parking bid and a March 17 budget hearing and affordable-housing bond resolution. Staff announced the townCivic Academy will accept applications beginning tomorrow, with classes in April and May.
No formal council votes on development agreements occurred at the work session; staff said an extension or revised MDA could appear on the April 7 council agenda because the current agreement expires April 15.
