York County approves Wessel's grant, visitor‑bureau intern and routine business items

The board unanimously approved a $22,000 improvement grant for Wessel's Living History Farm to replace an aging HVAC system, repair a 14‑foot Dempster windmill bearing and refurbish Highway 81 signage. Tom Landmasser, president of the Wessel's board, described recent events and the organization's plans; Shauna Bigle, the farm’s director, described the need to maintain facilities to attract visitors.
The board also approved hiring an intern, Felicity Johnson, for the York County Visitors Bureau after Alex Adolf introduced the candidate and outlined intern duties such as grant filing organization and marketing support. The motion passed on roll call.
Other routine items approved included payroll and vendor claims (roll-call approval) and an addendum adding Fillmore County to the county's CentralSquare/Zuerker law‑enforcement software interlocal agreement. The board postponed discussion of the county weeds‑program assessment until April 28 because staff were not present.
