Clay County board approves calendar and policy adjustments and hears principal report on facilities and programs

At its May 14 meeting the Clay County School Board approved a set of calendar edits for 2026'1027 and passed two district policies on second reading. The board also approved contracts for occupational and physical therapy, BCBA services, speech/language services and preschool services with Head Start.
Calendar: The board approved proposed changes to the 2026'1027 school calendar that rearranged some professional development days to accommodate presenters and moved an abbreviated day to the day before Christmas.
Policies and handbooks: On second reading the board approved revised policy 2.400 (revenues) and revised policy 6.411 (student wellness). The board placed proposed handbook edits on first reading to standardize wording across elementary and high-school handbooks.
Special services contracts: The board approved contracting with Elevate Therapy Collective for occupational therapy, physical therapy and BCBA services; Stacy Burge for speech/language services; Megan Brown for speech-language evaluations; and Head Start for preschool services. The BCBA contract had been added earlier in March and no price increases were identified in the packet discussion.
Principal report: The principal highlighted that testing and finals were complete, Brownfield grant abatement had concluded, asbestos and coal removal in the old gym basement was finished and the Hermitage Springs window project was scheduled to begin May 21. The auditorium roof work is complete aside from gutters; summer school begins June 1. The principal also noted CTE student certifications, recent athletic achievements and a small grant ($2,700) for PE equipment.
The board confirmed scheduling options for June budget work and thanked student and community participants for recent events; the meeting adjourned thereafter.
