Marshfield City Administrator Steve Bar presented Ordinance 1542 in a first reading to update the city code governing the joint municipal court and to allow a permissive fee increase under 2025 Wisconsin Act 113. "The act would now allow it to go up by $10 from $38 to $48," Bar said, adding that of the new amount the municipality would keep $43 and $5 would be remitted to the state.
Bar told the council the city attorney had cleaned up references to state statutes and made minor formatting changes in the ordinance; he characterized those edits as housekeeping rather than substantive changes. He said cities are not required to raise the fee but are permitted to do so under the state law.
Staff recommended taking no action tonight and scheduling a second reading and adoption for the May 25 meeting. No substantive questions were raised during the presentation.
