Clerk's office: Save Act questions and 6,000 returned voter-registration cards as county prepares for elections

An agency official explained, "The Save Act is an initiative that is going through the house and the senate... it's taken up some time," and said citizens have called with questions about potential changes to voter registration checks and voter ID requirements. The official stressed that the local effect depends on whether and how the measure becomes law.
The same official said the county recently completed a biannual canvas and mailed new voter-registration cards; "When those cards come back, which is over 6,000," staff must verify whether voters still reside at the addresses or are deceased. The clerk's office also noted it closed the April election and is working toward an August election and then November, adding that election administration is effectively year-round.
Clerk staff also mentioned other ongoing items: a completed cybersecurity audit with results pending, a forthcoming online liquor-license application, deferred ADA compliance work that will continue to affect county offices, and three upcoming retirements that will prompt workflow reviews.
