County staff told the meeting that the annual open enrollment period will include a new short-term disability policy and a change in life insurance vendors.
A staff member explained, "So this year, we will be adding short term disability, a short term disability policy," and urged employees that "if you are wanting short term disability, now would be the time to get it." The speaker also said the county is switching life insurance from Mutual of Omaha to Lincoln Financial and emphasized that current life coverage will not automatically transfer: "You will have to re enroll for life insurance. So what you have now will not roll over to Lincoln."
The staff member added that the change will simplify some processes for employees who want to increase coverage because "there also will not be the medical insurability form to fill out." Employees were advised to complete enrollments during the open-enrollment window to retain or increase life benefits.
