Greene County to pause online and phone payments during May 1 DevNet migration

Greene County officials told staff the collector's and assessor's offices will migrate to a shared DevNet/DefNet software platform, requiring a short suspension of online and phone payment services.

An agency official said, "The migration begins on Friday, May 1, and we'll go through the weekend," and warned the public that the office will be closed to the public on the cutover day. The official added, "We're back in business 100% by Tuesday, May 5 on time for Cinco de Mayo," while hedging that online and phone payment acceptance might lag behind the in-person operations.

County staff said in-person payments will be accepted through Thursday before the migration and that a secured dropbox will accept checks during the closure; manual tax waivers were discussed but rejected because they would create double data entry. On outreach, the agency official said the county will send a PSA countywide because "about 10% of the public actually reads or is aware of what's going on" and staff expect many callers seeking in-person service despite notices.

Officials said the county selected a payment integrator recommended by DevNet to minimize integration work and that the new arrangement should reduce recurring daily glitches by placing assessor and collector functions on the same back-end software. Phone-forwarding logistics for the closed day were still under discussion at the meeting.

The migration announcement included operational details for residents: in-person credit card acceptance will continue while the office is open through Thursday; after that day, only checks via the dropbox will be processed during the closure. The county asked residents who need receipts for same-day DMV transactions to plan ahead given the temporary shutdown of online services.
