The Temple ISD Board of Trustees held officer elections and recognized dozens of students, coaches and staff at its May 11 meeting.
Trustees nominated and elected Dan Posey as board president, Ronnie Gaines as vice president and Virginia Suarez as board secretary in voice votes after nominations from trustees. The board earlier administered the oath of office to trustees representing Districts 2 and 7.
Before and between business items, the board spent much of the evening recognizing student accomplishments across career and technical education, athletics, fine arts and other programs. The superintendent and trustees named more than 100 state- and national-level qualifiers, including Travis Science Academy student Marin Garcia, who was recognized as a Baylor TIP Green Scholar. The board also highlighted Carly Marshall, a Temple High School junior ranked among the state’s top girls golfers and a US Women’s Open qualifier.
An alumni spotlight honored Andrew Flores (Temple High School class of 2007), introduced as chief of police at Texas A&M University–Central Texas, who thanked the district and reflected on how his TISD education shaped his career. The board also named Casey Woolard of Western Hills Elementary as the Rotary Club’s educator of the month and recognized participants in the inaugural Aspiring Campus Leadership Academy.
Administrators and trustees took photos with students and honorees throughout the recognitions. The meeting proceeded from these presentations into regular business, including committee assignments and consent items.
