Town manager outlines projects, $115,000 FY2026 grants and three FY2027 reinvestment submissions

Town Manager Gene Deorn updated the Georgetown Town Council on capital work, upcoming grants and state legislative activity at the May 11 meeting.
Deorn said site grading for the combined police and public works facility is complete and pipe set-out will begin May 13, with footers to follow for buildings. The Parson's Lane trailhead and parking area have sidewalks installed and a stormwater detention pond beneath the parking area was completed.
On grants, Deorn said FY2026 grant applications are now available with $115,000 to award; the application deadline is Friday, May 29 at 4:30 p.m. He also reported three applications submitted for FY2027 community reinvestment funds (part of a bond bill): $85,000 for Parson Lane trailhead and parking lot; $27,000 for Leighton Avenue sidewalk crossings and lighting between East Laurel Street and Depot Street; and $264,000 for pump-station equipment and control-panel cabinets at two pump stations. Deorn said notice of award is expected in early July.
Deorn briefly summarized recent General Assembly activity on several bills of local interest and closed his report with reminders about upcoming events, including the Delaware League of Local Government Day and the Georgetown Memorial Day service.
What's next: Staff will proceed with the facility construction schedule and await grant-award notices in early July; the council did not take formal votes on the project applications during the meeting.
