The College Place City Council read a written comment on May 12 from Karen Haden, chief executive officer of the YMCA of Walla Walla, expressing the organization's support for the proposed College Place Community Opportunity Center at Lions Park.
The letter described the center as a “multiple-use facility” planned to include a rural library, a licensed child-care center and community gathering space. The YMCA noted it had been active in the center's design development and provided funding support through a Department of Commerce grant to design the child-care space. The letter urged the council to continue advancing funding opportunities so the center can be completed.
The YMCA letter was entered into the public record and read by the clerk during the public-comment portion of the meeting. No public commenters spoke in person during that period.
