The OC Middle principal told the board she has seen measurable student growth and outlined classroom strategies to sustain and increase that progress, including PLC time focused on benchmarks, a renewed emphasis on complex texts in ELA and an initiative to give students ownership of their data.
"I'm never 100% happy until we get those numbers have to be higher," the principal said, describing both pride in growth and continued urgency to raise standards. She credited teachers — naming Miss Francis and Kathy Cook among others — for pushing students and sharing strategies such as fast math that produced notable gains in particular grade groups.
As part of an accountability and engagement push, the principal described a student data tracker that will live in student planners so students can follow their spring benchmark, current GSA, benchmark two and a reflection piece. She also said the school will open a student lounge next year — funded in part with Title I money — as an incentive for students who demonstrate mastery to earn supervised leisure time, board games and creative activities.
During follow‑up questions, the principal described plans to expand extracurriculars (soccer and Beta Club) and said the school is looking for volunteer sponsors and coaches to run those programs.
Board members applauded the presentation and asked implementation questions; the principal said staff will continue PLC scheduling and refining logistics for the student tracker and lounge ahead of next year.
