Superintendent reports $1.2M permanent improvement fund, security-entrance bids and safety fixes after spectator injury

The superintendent provided a facilities and operations update that covered ongoing construction, upcoming bids and a recent safety incident.

He said the district's permanent improvement fund currently holds about $1.2 million, money set aside to handle large repairs such as HVAC or roof replacements. "We're right now in that permanent improvement fund of 1.2 million," he said, and described using the balance for priority safety and maintenance work while weighing investments against the new school construction schedule.

On capital projects, the superintendent reported mandatory pre-bid meetings for security-entrance work at three schools; two general contractors and several subcontractors attended, and the bid opening was set for June 4. A separate pre-bid for a Westside practice facility was scheduled with the bid opening moved back to June 18 to encourage more interest. Work on the Mullins PreK school is progressing, with site prep and concrete scheduled in the coming weeks and weekly photo updates planned.

The superintendent also reported a spectator who fell at the Wyoming East baseball complex and required hospital care. After the incident, maintenance installed a wooden rail along the dugout step-down to reduce risk; accident reports were filed and the district has been in contact with the visitor.

Next steps listed by the superintendent included continuing bid coordination with McKinley and SQP, posting periodic project updates, and bringing construction partners to a summer board meeting to introduce them to members and provide progress reports.
