Wyoming County Schools board members approved the district's April monthly financial report and gave final approval to the district's budget so the superintendent can submit it to the state by the May 30 deadline.
Miss Church, who presented the packet, told the board that the district's total cash and investments rose by $3,684,000 in April and that the general fund balance at month-end was "almost 6.6" million. She credited large drawdowns and state aid increases for the revenue gains and noted a Treasury reimbursement directed back to bond funds. "Total revenues for general fund in April increased $4.7 million and we have reached almost 83% of what we projected," she said.
Church detailed line-item movements: property-tax receipts and other local collections rose, state aid increased by about $878,000, other state sources (including EIA) contributed about $2.7 million, and several personnel-cost categories rose (professional personnel +$58,273; service personnel +$26,000; professional substitutes +$22,446). She also explained a coding error that inflated a temporary part-time service line and said staff would correct it in the accounting records.
Board members asked clarifying questions about substitute pay and payroll timing before a motion to accept the monthly financials passed on a voice vote. The board then considered the final budget; Church said it was unchanged from the version presented at the prior meeting and reminded members that submission to the state requires board approval and a public notice in the newspaper. Superintendent Mr. Henry recommended adoption; the board approved the budget by voice vote.
What happens next: the superintendent will submit the approved budget to the state by the deadline and post the required notice. The board's acceptance of the monthly financials establishes the district's current fiscal position heading into the end of the fiscal year.
