Board approves Petrova HVAC/abatement contract and construction-management amendment for Turfield/bleachers

The Saranac Lake Central School District board approved two capital-project items under old business: a cooperative contract for mechanical reconstruction and abatement at Petrova Elementary and an amendment to construction-management services for the Turfield and bleacher project.
For Petrova, staff said the district is piggybacking off a Gordian cooperative procurement with John W. Danforth Company overseeing installation. The work includes replacing a third-floor univent (already approved through the district's EPC project) and mirroring that installation on the first and second floors, plus associated abatement. The meeting record states the Gordian base bid and includes a $100,000 allowance for mechanical, electrical and general construction work; staff said negotiating through the cooperative reduced the overall price compared with the initial proposal and avoids having multiple subcontractors across the building.
The Petrova contract was recorded as Resolution 063 2024 and approved by the board. Staff told members the work is planned for summer to avoid student disruption and emphasized coordinating project numbers and accounting because some elements are funded through different capital project lines.
Separately, the board approved an amendment to the district's construction-management contract with Schoolhouse Construction Services LLC to support the $5.25 million Turfield and bleacher capital project (voter-approved propositions). The amendment sets a base proposal amount of $297,500 with allowances and a not-to-exceed amendment of $30,000 for CM services tied to the anticipated project cost and schedule.
Both items were approved by voice vote. Staff said earlier contractor work on boilers at Bloomingdale under a cooperative agreement had performed well and that familiarity with the vendor informed the recommendation to proceed.
